Plastic Waste Management Bye-law
The Asamannoor Grama Panchayat has implemented a plastic waste management by-law to ensure the scientific processing of plastic waste and the protection of the environment within its jurisdiction. Under this regulation, the manufacture, sale, storage, and use of single-use plastic products are completely banned within the Panchayat area. It is mandatory to segregate plastic waste generated in households and business establishments at the source and hand it over to the 'Haritha Karma Sena' (Green Action Force), which operates under the directives of the Local Self-Government Department. All owners are obliged to pay the prescribed user fee regularly. The by-law stipulates strict penalties and legal action against those who violate the rules by dumping plastic in public places or water bodies, or by burning plastic and causing air pollution. Through this initiative, the Asamannoor Grama Panchayat aims to build a plastic-free, sustainable, and model village with the active participation of the public.
