Grama Panchayat

The administrative history of Asamannoor Grama Panchayat is a remarkable story of public participation and development. The panchayat was formed in 1953. Since its inception, successive administrative councils have played a pivotal role in developing basic infrastructure for local residents and achieving progress in the agricultural and social sectors.

Administrative councils across various terms prioritized the modernization of local roads, drinking water projects, and educational institutions. Many prominent public representatives have led this panchayat. The most significant achievement in its administrative history has been the successful implementation of decentralized planning schemes and participatory planning programs aimed at the region's holistic growth, transcending party politics.

Asamannoor Panchayat came into existence in 1953 with six wards and seven members. The first ward included a reserved seat in addition to a general seat, and the term of office was three years. K. Kesava Pisharodi served as the first president, followed by S. N. Nair. Administrator rule was in effect from 1957. Elections were held again in 1963; in addition to the seven elected members, there was one nominated female member—Smt. Bhanumathi Balakrishnan.
